How to Make a
Website (the simple way)
It takes
effort, but it
becomes much simpler when you follow the steps in the action guide
1-2-3...
This
site is all about simple products
and in the process of developing this website it surprised me when I
found a company that makes web site building (and management)
simple. This made it a natural for inclusion in this site.
I
was impressed with this company when I
came across them while researching web hosting options for this site
and I
have now come to believe that these tools would
benefit many others
like me who are:
- thinking
about starting up a business
on-line and,
- looking for a simpler approach
(preferably
1-2-3 / color by numbers / hold my hand while I do this type of
approach ;-)
I have to say
this up front,
however - while starting up a successful business can be made simpler,
it
still requires effort and perseverance. So if you are looking to
get
rich quick then please stop wasting your time reading this
for you will
be disappointed.
Here is my story:
Last
November I felt it was time to start looking at alternate career
options. You see, I work (for now) in the pulp and paper business -
which has been severely impacted by the recent downturn in the US
housing market. The writing was on the wall. Our manufacturing
facility, and my livelihood for 19 years, may be gone soon and I felt I
should start thinking about what I would really want to do if the
opportunity presented itself.
If I could make the
perfect job for myself, what would it look like?
In
the process of mulling over my options, I put together a list of my
skill set, my interests, hobbies and passions. As it turns out, I have
spent most of my life helping people with technology - from
running a business providing Internet support to being the president of
our local computer users group and helping friends and family alike. I
like people and I enjoy lending a
helping hand when I can.
Then it struck me - There
must be many
people just like my friends and neighbors that could use a hand with
technology. What an excellent theme for a website... Imagine all the
people I could help!
Now for the reality check...
How
am I going to generate interest in my website? How are people going to
find me? I have experience with web site design and I know that
building a successful website is not easy. I have
built a dozen or so websites in the past and I know
that traffic does not just happen. It has to be generated. I also
realize that no traffic = no business.
Then came the
other questions... who would host the website, what would be the best
way to structure it for ease of navigation... would there be a way to
generate income?
These questions started to dampen
my enthusiasm a little. My big concern was with traffic generation.
After all, what would be the point of me working so hard if in the end
I am only talking to a handful of people?
The
turning point!
Then one night, while I
was
researching website hosting companies, I read about Site Build
It! (SBI)
and I have to be honest, I was really very skeptical. It looked too
good to be true, as one by one my concerns were disappearing - could it
really be this easy?
I am a real
skeptic. I really have to look at claims from every angle and from a
number of sources before I give it any credence. (This is exactly what
I do for my product reviews too!) So I started my research and started
looking for the dirt. You know, the other side of the story. I
researched discussion forums and other reviews on-line looking for the
downside and I was astonished at what I found...
No dirt!
I
was
starting to feel more comfortable as this was nothing like a "get rich
quick" outfit.
So I spent some time on the SBI
website to get a better feel for how their system actually works and I
was delighted to realize that there is no real mystery to the SBI
system at all. Their
philosophy is - you provide the content, (they call
it BAM - Brain And Motivation), and they will provide you with the rest
of the tools to build a successful website that draws traffic.
Part of
their "system" that I especially liked was the video
action guide. It works much like an on-line presentation with
audio that I
could start, stop and review at the click of my mouse. Personally, I
find it easier to follow than the text version that is also available.
To
my relief, their system is more like "anti get rich quick". They
believe in quality content instead of tricks to draw traffic to your
website. In fact their mascot is a tortoise. Slow and steady. The more
I read, the more I liked.
I
was still not sold though. I needed proof.
Up
to
this point, I found the SBI approach to be very well organized and
professional. They
believe that the cornerstone to success is good content (can't argue
with that), and that with the application of their Google-friendly
methods and tools,
the traffic will come.
Easy to say. I wanted to
see the numbers.
And
show me the numbers they
did! They claim
that, SBI websites consistently outperform all others. According to a Netcraft.com
survey, 63% of SBI sites
made the top 3% of all websites and 35% of SBI website made the top 1%.
I
picked up this statistic in their Video
Tour - a 30 minute on-line video presentation that shows in detail what
SBI is all about. I found this presentation informative. It answered
all of my questions and I quickly learned why my old websites never
stood a chance at developing any real traffic.

As
you
have already guessed by now, I did finally purchase SBI for use on this
website and now I am in a position to say that I am more impressed with
the product now than when I signed up. They have in fact over-delivered
on their promises. The further I got into my project, the better SBI
got - the website and business development process was made easy
because I just had
to start at chapter one of the video
action guide (select for demo), and then proceed at
my own pace one step at a time with a mentor by my side. Now that is
how I like it - 1-2-3...
So far I
am delighted with the service that SBI offers and fully expect that
this web site will continue to grow and draw interested readers, such
as
yourself, for a long time as a result.
